Too Hot to Work

August 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The heat is sweltering, the humidity oppressive – but the kids did not let it bother them. The district shuts the cooling off on the weekends – it is a cold water system, not real air conditioning, so the stream of cold water never makes it around the building.

It should be fine by Wednesday and start all over when they shut it down next weekend. Think: iced tea; snow; Minnesota in the winter; October.

  • We started AR and we already have a student that has 60 points named Anna.
  • 2 students didn’t have the vocab done; some students are getting the answers wrong because they ask for the letter and they write the whole word down.
  • We did a power right.
  • We did a math test. 13 A’s and 2 were hundreds.
  • The students that didn’t bring in the previous test have a disadvantage.
  • We finished reading the social studies chapter and did some of the worksheets.
  • We read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Mrs. Frisby is going to the rats for help.
  • We readThe Miraculous Journey of  Edward Tulane
  • Edward was thrown overboard and rescued by a fisherman who thinks he’s a girl!
  • We won in kickball 15 to 6.
  • We ate a cheeseburger for lunch and tots
  • We did edit sentences. Tomorrow we will time them again.
  • In a couple of weeks we will do an vocablary.
  • Jady blogged

Assignments Update for Monday

August 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We timed the students to see haw long it took to write the two edit sentences this morning. The student done first was done in three minutes and thirty seconds. The student who took the longest was done in twenty-one minutes and thirty seconds. A difference of eighteen minutes. The ability of copying off the board is an important skill.

  • eight students did not bring in the first part of their tests to help them with the second part
  • two students did not have signed math folders
  • two students did not have their Friday Folders signed

Monday – What’s in the Works

August 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We will start the AR tests today.

We will have our fourth math test.

We will see how many students have:

  • brought in the first part of their math tests to help them with the second part
  • have their Friday Folders signed
  • have their math folders signed
  • have their vocabulary competed

We asked the kids last week where they were at with their Giant Post Cards. Several were pretty far along. Most have the vocabulary completed and the book read. A few haven’t started.
